After its recent adoption of Bird Key Park, the Sarasota-Manatee Ohio State Alumni Club participated in the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup Saturday, Sept. 19. The local OSU club adopted the park as part of a program run by Sarasota County’s Keep Sarasota Beautiful.
During the 2008 coastal cleanup, nearly 400,000 volunteers collected more than 6.8 million pounds of trash in 100 countries and 42 states, the largest volunteer effort of its kind.
Twenty-two members of the OSU club collected roughly 10 bags of trash Saturday around Bird Key Park. The cleanup was the first of four that the club will do this year.
