+ Turtle Watch leaders explain nesting process
On Sept. 1, Cyndi Seamon, with the Longboat Key Turtle Watch, explained to the crowd how the loggerhead turtle comes on shore, digs her nest, lays her eggs, covers the nest and returns to the sea. The nest was then excavated to determine how many eggs — the size of ping-pong balls — had hatched and to gather other data for Mote Marine Laboratory.
