Village resident Graham Cox was making minor repairs to the wall of his home when he made a newsworthy discovery: issues of The Longboat Observer dating back to the late 1970s and 1980s. Cox said a previous restaurant had probably put the papers in the wall for insulation. Some were too moldy to read, but he brought three papers that were still in good condition to share with his friends at Tiny’s of Longboat Key.
One issue, published Nov. 10, 1983, celebrated Longboat Key’s 28th birthday with prominent Key pioneers.
One thing Cox noticed: Moore’s Stone Crab Restaurant’s advertisement looked almost the same then as it looks today.
