A nest named for a top turtle recently hatched at 6429 Gulf of Mexico Drive.
The Virginia Sanders nest — dedicated to the longtime Longboat Observer Turtle Watch columnist — had 115 hatchlings, one of which was alive when Turtle Watchers excavated it.
Sanders’ daughter, Beth Brewer, sponsored the nest in her mother’s honor.
