On the pizza-topping menu: eggplant, peppers, tomatoes, basil and oregano.
Not available: pepperoni.
The pizza didn’t come from a restaurant, but the 11 fourth-grade students at Just for Girls Inc., in Bradenton, agreed that no pizza could top the ones they made from scratch.
“It’s better than any kind of pizza,” said Alana Davis, 10. “It’s fresh.”
On Wednesday, July 22, the Longboat Key Garden Club held the grand finale for the pizza garden it sponsored at the youth organization to teach students to grow healthy ingredients. At the event, each girl made her own pizza, using ingredients grown in a garden at the facility with the help of Gary Campbell, owner of Landscapes in Paradise.
Audra Lovett, 9, plans to continue cooking pizzas at home, where she is also growing her favorite ingredient — basil.
