About 75 of Sanford Milter’s nearest and dearest gathered July 9, at Jewish Family & Children’s Service to celebrate his 90th birthday and the 94th birthday of his sister-in-law, Florence Katz.
Consistent with an invitation that said, “Life is uncertain; eat dessert first,” the afternoon party featured assorted ice cream with sundae toppings and Sanford’s favorite — chocolate-chocolate cake. And, consistent with Milter’s long involvement with and support of JFCS, the event was one of the first to take place in the just-completed addition to the organization’s headquarters on Fruitville Road.
Two rabbis were present to bless the birthday boy and girl: Rabbi Jonathan Katz, of Temple Beth Israel, and Barbara Aiello, resident rabbi at Kobernick House. Among the guests: Helen Sherman, Sanford’s partner of 13 years; Barbara Brizdle and Larry Schoenberg; Sanford’s daughter, Susi Rothenberg; Sue Jacobson; Dorothy Jacobson; Sally Yanowitz; Gersh Cohn and Ruth Wexler; Ed Schaye; Renee Sheade and Harry Kartoz; JFCS board Chairwoman Marie Monsky and her husband, Donald; Bob and Dottie Garner; Charlotte Graver; Sheila Kartoz; Sylvia Cohodas; Gene and Evelyn Koshner; and Joy Server and Robert Caswell.
