Connecticut resident Melissa DiGalbo, who is currently staying on Longboat Key, snapped this photo of a shark Thursday, May 7, on the beach outside of Longboat Harbour Towers.
Beachgoers said that they had spoken to officials at Mote Marine Laboratory, who identified it as a blacktip shark. The shark swam approximately 10 to 15 feet away from shore. After a few minutes outside of Longboat Harbour Towers, the shark headed north.
