APRIL FOOLS —
+ Longboat honors a true swinger
The Longboat Key Town Commission voted unanimously last week at its regular meeting to present the coveted key to Longboat to renowned golfer Tiger Woods. According to Mayor George Spoll, the town has wanted to make a Key presentation for years but couldn’t agree on a worthy recipient. After the town’s recent purchase of the Longboat Key Club and Resort, town officials decided they wanted to honor a respected golfer.
Woods has already been conducting daily golf clinics for the Women’s 18-Hole Golf Association at the Key Club. So far, Woods has declined a request to hold a golf clinic for the Men’s 18-Hole Golf Association.
Woods will be presented with the Key to Longboat at an April 1 ceremony. Tickets are $100. Proceeds will benefit the town’s pension fund.
