Longboat Key resident and photographer Mary Lou Johnson received a Merit Award Thursday, Feb. 25, at the 2010 Meadows Photographic Competition for her photo, “Mystic Morning,” which was taken at the public dock on the north end of Longboat Key. To see more of Johnson’s photography, visit Plymouth Harbor. Her exhibit, “Water: Sustenance and Serenity” is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Monday, March 8. Johnson will also hold her final Meet the Artist reception from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 4.

Longboat police stop burglary in progress
Police arrested Charles Joseph Griffith Jr., who they say could be responsible for additional burglaries on the Key.

Unhatched sea turtle eggs lay on the beach after Cyndi Seamon, a longtime Longboat Key Turtle Watch volunteer, excavated a nest Wednesday, July 9. Fellow volunteer Lindsey Conrad then separates the eggs to see how many hatched and possibly made it to the water. The Longboat Key Turtle Watch patrols the beaches at sunrise each morning.
