  • This an Observer editorial that I can mostly agree with, a rarity of late. To the Commmission's credit they did not adopt this verbose confirmation of the long established reputation of the camel design team.

  • I whole heatedly agree with this editorial. A vision should be high concept, aspirational, directional, and inspirational. It sets the image, tone and attitude for the community. Something we can all grasp easily, communicate, rally around and work together to achieve. It should be used to promote Longboat both internally and externally. It communicates a quality place where people want to live, do business and play.

Core Values that the vision is founded on like "Create A Welcoming Community Environment", " Protect The Environment and Aesthetics That Have Made Longboat Famous", "Exemplary Ethics In Government", ' Fiscal Responsibility", "Protect Property Owner Safety and Property Rights". etc., etc. will help guide Town management and our elected officials. If decisions meet these values, in essence, good. If not just don't do it.
The Comp Plan, a more detailed effort, should be based on these values as well.

As Winston Churchill once said "some documents defend themselves from ever being read", (or utilized). Let's make this revised vision document meaningful and concise to guide us forward.

I applaud and thank the Vision Committee for their dedication and efforts on our behalf to date.

    Sincerely, Bob Gault
