The Longboat Key Town Commission authorized the mayor to sign a new 30-year wholesale wastewater agreement between the town and Manatee County at its meeting tonight.

The town will begin construction on two groins behind The Islander Club, 2295 Gulf of Mexico Drive, Monday, Nov. 2. Punta Gorda-based Marine Contracting Group Inc. will perform the work for $899,898.

Longboat Key Police Chief Al Hogle said patrol officer Dennis Silverio Jr. and two U.S. Coast Guard officers assisted the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Saturday, Oct. 24 in retrieving a 30-foot Grady-White boat from the hands of two burglars during a high-speed chase.

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
