Longboat Key Fire Rescue conducted a two-day drill for all personnel at the Sarasota County Technical Institute Fire Academy on Dec. 10-11.
This drill was held a month after all personnel attended and completed a class on alarm systems, sprinkler systems, standpipe systems, advancing fire hose in a high-rise structure and dealing with evacuation of occupants.
While at the facility, firefighters were able to put what they learned in the classroom into practical application. Participants were divided into several teams, given a fire scenario and challenged to mitigate the situation.
From this training, Fire Chief Rich Dickerson said the department has enhanced their firefighting capabilities in high-rise buildings.
