+ Code enforcement receives help
The Longboat Key Town Commission agreed at its Thursday, Nov. 19 regular workshop to allow Town Manager Bruce St. Denis to use $57,000 in the budget for a code-enforcement officer and use it to pay for a contract employee for the code department.
+ Term limits might undergo revision
The Town Commission will consider a revised ordinance at its Monday, Dec. 7 regular meeting that would allow commissioners to serve three consecutive two-year terms, as well as any additional time served during a partial term for being appointed.
Vice Mayor Robert Siekmann urged the commission to consider the change, because Mayor Lee Rothenberg will not have served a full six years in office when he term limits out in March.
+ Lawsuit reaches temporary solution
Cedars West of Longboat Inc. and Cedars Tennis and Fitness Club reached a temporary agreement about the use of two asphalt tennis courts Nov. 13, at a temporary-injunction hearing. The John Eagleton Tennis Academy will have priority use of the courts from 3 to 6 p.m., and Cedars West residents will have priority use of the courts at other times. Cedars West residents will have access to 10 additional courts at Cedars Tennis and Fitness Club. Cedars Tennis and Fitness Club President Randy Langley will pay for the courts to be repaired from Dec. 12 through Dec. 19.
+ Holiday trash schedule changes
There will be no garbage collection on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26. Garbage will be collected Sat., Nov. 28, instead.
Last week at the Longboat Key Club hearing, the town’s Planning and Zoning Board voted 5-3 to allow the two, nine-story golf-course condominiums and the proposed hotel to be smaller in mass and be built as high as the tallest existing Islandside condominium.
