+ Moore’s Stone Crab Restaurant and Marina celebrates 45 years
Moore’s Stone Crab Restaurant turns 45 Wednesday, Nov. 21.
That might not sound that old, especially on Longboat Key.
But the restaurant at 800 Broadway is the oldest restaurant on the island that is still under original ownership.
To celebrate, the restaurant will offer throwback prices to the 1970s for all-you-can-eat stone crab, along with select other meals beginning Nov. 26 and continuing for two weeks, although exact prices haven’t been set.
In honor of its birthday, the restaurant recently gave its dining room a makeover with fresh paint, carpet work and new stone crab and sea turtle wall-hangings.
Co-owner Alan Moore reports that the first month-and-a-half of this year’s stone crab season has been good.
“It’s very good,” he said. “It’s much better than last year.”
+ Cannons Marina receives its 14th Admiral’s Circle Award
Cannons Marina won its 14th Admiral’s Circle Award from Grady-White Boats.
The award is given to dealerships that achieve a substantial amount in retail sales for the model year while also achieving customer satisfaction index scores of more than 9.25 on a 10-point scale.
“We are so honored to receive an award like this,” said David Miller, owner of Cannons Marina, in a prepared statement. “It just proves that we’re doing a good job. We love what we do and enjoy coming into work every day. We make sure that we give our customers the best service possible and offer them the best products available, like Grady-White.”
+ AMI Outfitters opens on Pine Avenue
AMI Outfitters opened in October in the historic Sears Cottage at 505 Pine Ave., on Anna Maria Island.
The men’s clothing store provides gear for kayaking, fishing and Nordic-walking with a focus on sustainable clothing, such as bamboo/organic-cotton blends from TASC. It also carries some women’s clothing and accessories, such as Nomadic Traders and ChicoBags.
Owner Steve Traves began his career in retail as the manager of Mountain People, in Idyllwild, Calif., which grew to become the Eagle Creek travel gear company.
The Cortez resident went on to enjoy a 30-year career in architectural and outdoor photography before semi-retiring from photography and multimedia development and returning to retail.
