The U.S. Coast Guard rescued five people aboard a 48-foot commercial fishing boat earlier this week after their boat began taking on water near Longboat Pass.
According to a news release, a crew member aboard the Miss Shannon contacted Coast Guard watch standers at 8:49 a.m. Monday by radio and reported they were taking on water in the bow of the boat. The crew had flooding under control and had anchored but needed assistance.
A 45-foot response boat from the Coast Guard Station Cortez arrived on scene and took the Miss Shannon and its crew on board and towed their vessel to Cortez Cove Boatworks for repairs.
No injuries were reported.
