The town of Longboat Key’s hired asphalt contractor, Superior Asphalt Inc., began resurfacing Channel Lane, St. Judes Drive and North St. Judes Drive this week.
The streets were prepared Monday by sweeping and clipping back the sod and soils at the edge of the pavement.
St. Judes Drive and Channel Lane will be repaved today. Repaving of St. Judes Drive North was complete at noon Tuesday.
The streets will all be “tacked” with liquid asphalt and then the new asphalt is placed before a final sweeping of the new road is performed.
Residents are urged not to drive on the road during the “tacking period,” to avoid collecting asphalt on car tires that can be tracked onto driveways.
All three roads are being repaved for approximately $70,000.
Public Works Director Juan Florensa said all residents were notified of the resurfacing project prior to the repaving project this week.
The streets can be used within one hour of paving completion.
