+ Colony restaurantreceives boost
The Colony Beach & Tennis Resort President and General Manager Katie Moulton says she has her brothers, fellow restaurant owners Tommy and Michael Klauber, to thank for the boost in business at The Colony Dining Room since the hotel operations closed last month.
The Klauber brothers, Moulton said, used the social-networking tool Facebook.com as their resource to get customers to show up in droves in recent weeks to support the only Colony entity still in operation on the property.
“Our regular customers and strong supporters are stopping by more than usual,” said Moulton who said both dinner and Sunday brunch service has increased in October, which is usually a slow restaurant month.
Moulton said The Colony Dining Room is now open at 5 p.m. to promote its popular early-bird specials. Italian buffets have also been instituted on Fridays, while a stone-crab festival is planned for Friday, Oct. 16 to celebrate stone-crab season. Stone-crab specials will continue every Thursday thereafter during stone-crab season.

+ PIC makes Key Club statement
Longboat Key Public Interest Committee (PIC) President Beverly Shapiro said the majority of the PIC board and most PIC members who responded to a board survey tend to favor the Longboat Key Club and Resort’s Islandside $400 million redevelopment and expansion plan.
Shapiro said the committee still has concerns with the project, though.
“PIC urges the town’s Planning and Zoning Board and the Town Commission to very carefully and critically review and consider all aspects of the expansion request, with particular emphasis on determining whether traffic and water concerns can be properly dealt with,” Shapiro said.
+ Town offers meeting recordings
First, the town offered its entire agenda on its Web site, www.longboatkey.org. And, now, audible recordings of the Town Commission’s regular meetings and regular workshops are available on the Web site, as well.
Town Clerk Trish Granger said the next Web site amenity the town’s Management Information Systems department is working on is real-time video from commission meetings. And, eventually, the meetings will be broadcast live over the Internet.
