The Sarasota Yacht Club’s clubhouse construction project is well under way. Last week, the light-gauge metal trusses over the main building were put in place, which will be covered by a pitched, metal roof. The clubhouse will eventually have three different roofs. The administrative wings and fitness center will be covered by flat roofs, the main part of the building will have a pitched, metal roof, and the main lobby roof is a custom-designed tube-frame truss structure, which will be covered by translucent PolyTetraFluoroEthylene (PTFE).
According to the August 2009 Spars and Tacks Sarasota Yacht Club Newsletter, by Aug. 28, the date of the club’s “Topping Off” party, the roof will be nearing completion and many of the windows will be in place.
The new clubhouse, which is being built in a contemporary-coastal design, will have about 23,500 square feet of air-conditioned space and will include an additional 10,000 square feet of outdoor covered-dining areas, with parking beneath the building and updated kitchen-and-banquet facilities. Outside the dining rooms will be the Waterside Terrace and the Porthole Patio. The new clubhouse will also include the Neptune Lounge,
Splash, which is the pool area, and the Splash bar, a fitness center, locker rooms and two cabanas.
Construction on the yacht club began Nov. 21, 2008, and a soft opening for the new clubhouse is scheduled for February 2010. Project contractor is Tandem Construction, and project architect is Thomas Denslow, of DSDG Inc., both of Sarasota.
