Almost 50 images have been submitted to The Observer’s “Spirit of America” Photo Contest on YourObserver.com. Now it’s time to vote for your favorite photo. Simply visit Your Observer.com and click on the “Spirit of America” photo contest rectangle, located on the bottom right-hand corner of YourObserver.com’s home page. Click on the “Vote” tab, find your favorite picture and click the vote button underneath, then click the “Vote Now” button at the bottom of the page to submit your vote.
You must be registered to vote in the “Spirit of America” Photo Contest. To register, click the “Registration” tab and fill out the form. If you have already registered, login on the Existing Users tab. Votes will be accepted from now until 5 p.m. Monday, June 22. Registered users can vote up to 10 times per day. Get your family and friends involved, too, and have them visit YourObserver.com to vote for your photo or share your submissions on social networking programs like Facebook and twitter to help garner more votes.
The winning photo will be featured in The Observer’s “Spirit of America” special section, which will be inserted into all three of The Observers — Longboat, East County and Sarasota — on July 2, as well as on YourObserver.com. The winner will also receive a PENTAX Optio T10 6.0 Megapixels digital camera with 3x optical zoom valued at $329.99, sponsored by Donovan at Wolf Camera.

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
