Construction work on a town lift station water project is almost complete at the intersection of Spinnaker Lane and Gulf of Mexico Drive.
Country Club Shores residents, who have dealt with poor visibility when attempting to drive onto Gulf of Mexico Drive from Spinnaker Lane, and a closed off sidewalk, began noticing the project’s signs of completion today.
The exterior water pipes and pump, which acted as a bypass while the underground lift station was rehabilitated underground, are being removed today. Town Engineer Anne Ross said concrete barriers in the area would also come down today. New sod in the right of way will also be placed this week.
The $320,000 project, which involves upgrading and rehabilitating an aging pump system, is expected to be officially complete in June. Sarasota-based Spectrum Underground Inc. will monitor the new lift station for a couple of weeks before closing off the site for good in June.
The work is part of a large wastewater-rehabilitation program the Public Works Department is undergoing.
Six of the town’s 47-wastewater lift projects are either undergoing rehabilitation work or are slated for the work this fiscal year, according to a Ross.
The next lift stations, which work to boost the island’s water pressure Key-wide, slated for rehabilitation are at 300 Gulf of Mexico Drive, 2812 Gulf of Mexico Drive, 521 Gulf Bay Road and near at The Longboat Key Club and Resort’s Harbourside entrance.
