Perhaps it’s the classical music playing on the radio or the soothing voice in which she talks to her canine clients while she clips their nails and trims their hair, either way Alicia Aeziman has the ability to calm any dog that walks through the door of Alicia’s Grooming on Longboat Key.
“Each dog has a different personality,” says Aeziman, the shop’s owner and self-proclaimed dog-lover. “I have a very calm demeanor, which helps the dogs relax when they’re around me.”
Aeziman opened her shop in April 2007 after getting into dog grooming through a friend two years earlier.
Alicia’s Grooming provides grooming services, bathing, nail clipping and boarding for breeds of all sizes, from Newfoundlands to Bison Frises.
As the owner of two Malteses, Harry and Walter, Aeziman puts her clients at ease by treating every dog that comes into her shop as if they were her own.
“A lot of first-time customers are concerned about leaving their dogs,” says Aeziman. “Once they see that the dogs are calm and happy when they pick them up, they feel more comfortable.”
Conveniently located on Longboat Key, Alicia’s Grooming also offers pick-up and delivery service to make their clients’ experience as easy and stress-free as possible.
Longboat Key resident Elizabeth Thompson used the pick-up service the first time she had her Lowchen, Cosmo, groomed by Alicia.
“It was incredibly helpful,” says Thompson. "And I love the products Alicia uses. When Cosmo came home he was as soft as a mink coat.”
Aeziman attributes her customers' satisfaction to the personal joy that she gets from her work.
“The most rewarding part of the job is seeing the smile on the customer's face when they get to see their groomed dog and the reaction of the dog when they see their owner," says Aeziman.
