Nine marine contractors attended a pre-bid meeting Wednesday, April 29 about two permeable, adjustable-type groins that will be built behind The Islander Club to counteract the faster-than-usual erosion of beach in that area.
The meeting gave the contractors a chance to ask questions together in an open forum before offering competitive bids for the project.
The town of Longboat Key intends to select a contractor as soon as possible, because the unique timetable for the project will require the contractor to prepare for months in advance. The town hopes to begin construction for the project no later than Nov. 1.
For more information about the meeting, pick up a copy of the Thursday, May 7 Longboat Observer.
