+ Key Club requests one-on-one time
Longboat Key Club and Resort General Manager Michael Welly and club attorney John Patterson want one-on-one meetings with all seven commissioners.
An e-mail sent by Welly’s executive assistant April 19 states Welly and Patterson are seeking individual meetings to describe the proposed town code amendments, why they are being proposed and what the changes will accomplish.
Commissioner Gene Jaleski responded to the e-mail, explaining that he is open to discussion with Welly and Patterson.
But Jaleski also expressed frustration with the request.
Wrote Jaleski: “To date, I believe I have listened to more than 40 hours of testimony from Key Club lawyers and staff. As a result I believe I am cognizant of the facts and nuisances of the proposed code clarifications and policy changes being requested by the Key Club.”
Town attorney David Persson confirmed for Jaleski and the rest of the commission the conversations are permissible as long as they relate strictly to the code changes and are conducted with only one commissioner at a time.
+ Town submits tennis application
Town Manager Bruce St. Denis received permission from the Town Commission to use staff resources to submit an application for the town to receive designation as “Tennis Town USA,” which comes with a $100,000 prize that can be used to further enhance the town’s tennis facility. The commission did not wish to use taxpayer money to fund a professional effort to complete the application.
