Feb. 11 is registration deadline for Longboat election

The deadline to register to vote in time for the town’s March 12 general municipal election is two weeks away.
Registration must be received by Monday, Feb. 11.
For information about voter registration, Manatee County residents should contact the Manatee County Supervisor of Elections Office, votemanatee.com, and Sarasota County residents should contact the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Office, sarasotavotes.com.
Early voting will take place from March 2 through March 8, at Longboat Key Town Hall.
Three races are contested in this year’s election:
Larry Grossman is seeking the District 4 seat held by Mayor Jim Brown; Gene Jaleski is challenging Commissioner Phill Younger for one of two at-large seats; and Irwin Pastor is running against Commissioner Terry Gans for the other at-large seat.

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
