The Kiwanis Club of Longboat Key is seeking nominations for its annual “Citizen of the Year” award.
The award will be presented at the Longboat Key Kiwanis Foundation’s Third Annual Valentine’s Ball Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Longboat Key Club and Resort’s Harbourside Dining Room.
Submit your nominee’s name and a summary of why the individual should be considered by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20 to Kiwanis Club Secretary John Wild at HIZZONER1947@yahoo.com or to P.O. Box 8097, Longboat Key, Fla., 34228.
Tickets to the event will be $95 per person or 10 for $1,000. Proceeds benefit the Kiwanis Club Foundation’s local scholarship fund. Tickets are partially tax deductable.

The event is black-tie optional and will feature the 42nd Street Big Band from Tampa.

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
