The annual Kiwanis Club of Longboat Key's pancake breakfast was held March 20 this year at St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church. Proceeds of the breakfast benefit various Kiwanis Club projects.
Longboat Key hosts organic fair

Spring was definitely in the air March 19, at Joan M. Durante Park during Longboat Key's first Organic Living Fair. In addition to vegetable plants, herbs, annuals and related gardening tools, fairgoers had the opportunity to chat with experts on a variety of subjects.

Wagner Realty held its annual St. Patrick's Day party Wednesday, March 17, at Cedars West condominium. Attendees dressed in green for a poolside party featuring traditional Irish treats. Approximately 40 people attended the event.

Gulfshore parades its holiday spirit

For more than 20 years, Gulfshore of Longboat Key has held a St. Patrick's Day parade. Residents of the adjacent Twin Shores Park have recently joined them for a parade through the mobile-home featuring bagpipers and candy for the crowd.

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
