Café on the Bay, 5370 Gulf of Mexico Drive, closed Sunday, July 26.
According to a note taped to its door, Café on the Bay has been sold. A new restaurant will re-open in the same location in the Centre Shops this fall.
Former owners Titus Letschert and Betsie Coolidge were not available for comment.
Letschert and Coolidge will retain ownership of Café L’Europe, 431 St. Armands Circle.
Bill Herlihy, general manager of Café L’Europe, could not disclose the buyer’s name but said that a deal was finalized approximately two weeks ago.
“They got a great offer and decided to go with it,” he said.
Herlihy said the restaurant would most likely operate under a new name.
Café on the Bay opened in 1995 at the Longboat Key Club and Resort Moorings Marina. In 2006, the restaurant moved to its Centre Shops location.
