Candidates for the Longboat Key Town Commission made final campaign appearances by speaking at the March 12 meeting of the Republican Club of Longboat Key, held at the Chart House. Making individual presentations were District 1 incumbent Mayor Lee Rothenberg and challenger Lynn Larson; District 3 incumbent Commissioner Peter O’Connor and challenger David Brenner; and at-large challenger Phil Younger. At-large incumbent Commissioner Hal Lenobel was not present.
The candidates took questions from the audience following their presentation.
During the meeting, club President Jim Whitman announced that the speakers at the April 9 meeting will be state representative candidates Jim Boyd and Ray Pilon and U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan.

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
