The Longboat Key Historical Society plans to have a history-making season. And the person to lead this season will be newly elected Historical Society President Tom Mayers, son of Historical Society founder Fran Mayers. Mayers was elected president of the organization Thursday, Jan. 28, at a board meeting held in the Historical Society museum. The group also elected Bud Freeman as vice president, Phyllis McGuire as secretary and Jim McGuire as treasurer. New board members are Phyllis McGuire and Stephanie Clausson.
Mayers said that he plans to contact other local historical societies to generate ideas. The group will meet next week to discuss the upcoming speaker series. After the meeting, the group headed to Tiny’s of Longboat Key for drinks and snacks.
