Joe Tine is used to 2 a.m. phone calls, panicked clients and lots of emotions.
Tine isn’t a psychiatrist, although, as owner of Myco-Tek, he sometimes feels like one. His company provides repairs for fire-and-water damages and specializes in mold detection and removal, along with asbestos abatement — Myco-Tek helps clients after disaster strikes. So, Tine strives to treat customers like friends, so that he can help them in their time of need.
“The companionship that we create with our customers is what stands above the rest,” he said.
Tine worked in residential painting but saw damage in the homes in which he worked that was caused by poor workmanship. So, in 1985, he founded Myco-Tek with two employees.
Tine views his work with Myco-Tek as his way of helping others. His father was a firefighter. And although Tine didn’t choose that line of work, he feels that he is serving the public in his own way.
“Every single one of my customers is my best friend,” he said.
Tine focuses on protecting both employees and customers from the hazards of mold and asbestos, both through training and insurance.
“If you’re not properly licensed and insured, all those liabilities fall on your customer,” he said.
