Brad Tanner, school programs coordinator at Mote Marine Laboratory, was recently elected president of the Florida Association of Science Teachers and School Programs.

FAST is the state’s largest non-profit organization dedicated to improving science education in preschool through college.

Tanner has worked for five years at Mote, where he teaches, designs and evaluates education programs for students and helps teachers develop science-based lessons. He served previously on FAST’s board of directors as an informal science representative.

“As president, I hope to strengthen the bonds between Florida’s schools and informal science education programs,” Tanner said in a prepared statement. “Here at Mote, we work with teachers to bring marine science to life for students in our community and beyond. I hope to use my experience here to help strengthen science education statewide.”
