IPOC proposes settlement offer

Islandside Property Owners Coalition Chairman Bob White proposed a settlement to club officials last week.

 

The day before the Planning and Zoning Board’s Friday, Dec. 4 Islandside renovation and expansion hearing, the Islandside Property Owners Coalition proposed a settlement in which it urges The Longboat Key Club and Resort to build more of the residential units it needs to finance the hotel within the hotel itself.

By doing so, even if the club adds an additional floor to the hotel, White says it would assure the town the five-star hotel will be built and would eliminate the condominium towers from being constructed.

White suggests the club consider building 61 residences within the hotel instead of the 176 it proposes to finance the project, which White said is more consistent with the financing practices of hotel chains such as the Ritz-Carlton. IPOC’s proposal would also restrict major events to the off-season, eliminate the parking garage and possibly allow for the retention of the driving range.

Club officials told the planning board they are willing to discuss the proposal with IPOC but will not commit to anything at this time.

  • Let the LBK development get moving. Let IPOC get out of the way. The IPOC just wants to have the island their way for the couple of months a year they visit. The businesses need the revenue. The Resort needs an update.

    We begged some friends to come down and spend the Christmas holidays at LBK but they opted for Naples because they could find nicer accomodations. Let the Resort upgrade, update and become the premier destination it should be.

    Stop the insanity of local condo association boards using owners funds to fight a project many are in favor of and had no voice in how their money was being used.

    IPOC want a little cheese with that whine?

  • I think we could have some fun with the IPOC moniker. Maybe "Insane Proponents of Communism" would fit. Or "Idiotic Proletariats of Communes." Go for it!

  • So IPOC wants the Key Club to host its important events off season? Then maybe Chicago should hold its farmer's markets and all of its outdoor concerts and festivals in January.
