Commission discusses Village concerns tonight

The Longboat Key Town Commission will discuss issues Longbeach Village residents have with their neighborhood tonight.
On Nov. 7, town staff met with the Longbeach Village Association to address issues that include parking.
Police Chief Pete Cumming, Planning, Zoning and Building Director Robin Meyers and Public Works Director Juan Florensa will be in attendance at tonight’s 7 p.m. regular meeting at Town Hall to discuss issues raised in the village.
Also at its regular meeting, commissioners will:
Review:
• Election results for the town’s two referenda questions on the Nov. 6 ballot that were approved to allow for density changes on two Key properties.
Consider forwarding to its Jan. 7 regular meeting for second reading and approval:
• An ordinance that amends the town’s 2013 meeting schedule.
Consider adopting:
• An ordinance that allows for a budget transfer of $40,000 to complete the Linley Street boat ramp renovation project.
• An ordinance that amends parking restrictions in Longbeach Village.

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
