Hurricane season ended Nov. 30, and once again hurricanes avoided Longboat Key.
Tropical Storm Debby struck the area in late June, bringing wind, rain and damages, marking the Key’s first brush with a tropical storm in six years.
Town officials braced for Tropical Storm Isaac in August, the storm shifted direction and made landfall in Louisiana.
The Sarasota area has experienced hurricane impacts in recent decades but hasn’t had a direct hurricane hit since 1944.
