  • To clarify a point in the above article, it has never been the intention of the sign committee to remove "the Town's 122 bike signs". The sign committee has been working with the local bike community to ensure the safety of bikers on Longboat Key by identifying the "hot spots" that are the most challenging intersections for the bikers and motorists to navigate safely. It is the intention of the sign committee to identify unnecessary signs for removal, to maybe add signs where necessary and to make sure that the balance of the signs are strategically placed to ensure the safety of all bikers, pedestrians and motorists on Longboat Key.

  • To clarify a point, the sign committee is working very closely with the biking community to ensure that the safety of bikers on Longboat Key is not jeopardized. It is not the intention to remove all of the bike lane signs. It is the intention though to make sure that all signs on our roads are necessary and are strategically placed for the best and safest result for our bikers, pedestrians and motorists.

  • The new wayfaring sign that the town erected at the intersection of GMD and Broadway Street might be included in the list of un-needed or ineffective signage. Several people have stated that the sign is on the wrong side of GMD, the lettering is too small, there are too many signs for anyone to read traveling at 45 MPH and that the sign presented to drivers traveling north is two-thirds empty which looks odd. If we are trying to cut down on signs it seems that blank signs would be the first ones we would eliminate. Finally there is no lighting so the wayfaring signs are not readable after dark.
