Key T-Shirts, 6838 Gulf of Mexico Drive, has closed after 25 years in Whitney Beach Plaza.

“After 25 years at Whitney Beach Plaza, we have decided to close our doors,” said owner Rick Obeid in a prerecorded message left at the store’s phone number.

According to the message, Key T-Shirts could re-open at another location on Longboat Key next year.

“Thank you for your support, and we hope to see you again,” the message said.

Established in 1985, the beachwear-and-souvenir shop was the plaza’s oldest tenant.

We own a seasonal place there and over the last 20 yrs we have seen the island become a goast island... you have to go to the mainland or St Armands to get and do anything.. if it was not for Publix ??? someone need to step up and say to the old farts.. let us make this island a place people want to come to and stay..
