The Public Works Department started a $600,000 wastewater restoration project, also known as a rehabilitation slip-lining project, in Longbeach Village today.

Work will be performed over the next six months starting first in the Village just south of Broadway.
Work will then shift to Dream Island Road and, eventually, on Longview Drive in Button Harbor.

The wastewater pipelines collect sewage and, overtime, develop cracks that allow groundwater to seep in and create issues that increase the cost of treatment and disposal of the sewage.

The contractor, Jacksonville-based Insituform Technologies, will be notifying residents when they begin working on their street and will provide advance notification when work will be performed on a certain section of the street.

A brief interruption to service is possible, according to staff, but all residents will be notified ahead of time before that occurs.

Pending weather delays, the project is expected to be complete in May 2010.

Town staff urges residents to exercise caution when driving or walking in close proximity to the construction crews. Barricades and safety cones will be in place to alert residents to the work being performed.
