Jewell Bailey, 89, of Bradenton and formerly of Longboat Key, died Nov. 2.
Born Sept. 25, 1920, in Flint, Mich., she attended General Motors Institute and married her longtime sweetheart, William Bailey, in 1941.
Mrs. Bailey was an avid bridge player and enjoyed entertaining family and friends, swimming and music.
Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her husband, William. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Beardsley; son, Fred Bailey; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service was held at an earlier date. In lieu of flowers, a music scholarship will be established in Mr. and Mrs. Baileys’ names.

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
