Kiwanis Club to move meetings to the Key Club

For more than 10 years, the Kiwanis Club of Longboat Key met for weekly breakfasts at 7:30 a.m. Thursdays, at The Colony Beach & Tennis Resort’s main dining room. But this Thursday, Nov. 5, will be the group’s last meeting at The Colony. Beginning Thursday, Nov. 12, the Kiwanis Club will meet at The Grille at the Longboat Key Club and Resort’s Harbourside location.
According to Kiwanis Club President Bob Tucker, the decision to move the meetings was a mutual one. After The Colony suspended operations of its hotel and shops, the club moved its meetings to The Monkey Room to eat a continental buffet instead of a hot breakfast. Tucker said that the move will be more convenient for both the Colony and the Kiwanis Club, because The Monkey Room is otherwise closed on Thursdays.
“The Kiwanis Club really enjoyed meeting at The Colony for such a long period of time,” Tucker said. “We enjoyed the venue and the view of the Gulf … We’re sad to be leaving.”
