+ Sudakoff Foundation awards grant
The Roberta Leventhal Sudakoff foundation awarded a $250,000 grant for new science laboratories at Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium that will be used by University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee undergraduates.
Mote will donate the space that will be improved and used for new science classes beginning in the fall of 2013.
The total cost of the science-wing renovation, including equipment, scholarships and a research program endowment at Mote, is budgeted at $4 million, according to a news release. The capital portion is $1.5 million and renovation of the existing building will create 4,000 square feet of classes, labs and support space.
+ Eight Cedars employees receive CPR certification
Eight Cedars Tennis Resort employees received training and certification for CPR and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use.
Longboat Key Fire Rescue Volunteer President Jeorge Alvarez taught the class Sept. 24.
“We think this training is invaluable to our employees, members and guests,” said Trevor Hind, chief operating officer of RVA, which owns the resort, in a prepared statement. “Should any member or guest ever need medical assistance in the future, I am confident our staff at Cedars Tennis Resort will be able to assist until emergency medical help arrives.”
