Longboat Key Human Resources Manager Lisa Silvertooth has received her certification as a Florida Public Sector Labor Relations Professional, after undertaking extensive course studies and certification exams.
The Florida Public Employers Labor Relations Association awarded the certification.
During her course studies, Silvertooth was an active participant with the ongoing labor and contract negotiations between the town’s International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) and the Police Benevolent Association (PBA) unions.
During her studies, which lasted for four days, the Florida Public Employers Labor Relations Association used a comprehensive survey Silvertooth compiled for the town’s use during the negotiation of firefighter- and police-employee benefits. Silvertooth’s survey was used as a teaching tool for other students.
The certification process, Silvertooth said, allowed her to watch a negotiation process from start to finish.
Town Clerk Trish Granger said Silvertooth’s achievement is a huge benefit for the town.
“Lisa has now gone through the established training for municipal government union negotiations and has learned the background work needed for negotiations to run smoothly and legally,” Granger said.
