Planning and Zoning Board delays Moore's recommendation

The Longboat Key Planning and Zoning Board delayed a recommendation to the Town Commission on owner Alan Moore’s request to change Moore’s Stone Crab Restaurant & Marina, 800 Broadway, to a residential site.
Moore says he won’t be able to renegotiate his business’s double-digit interest-rate loans that are due in January if the planning board doesn’t move his request along to the commission next month.
Also at its regular meeting, the planning board:
Approved:
• A request by Ringling College of Art and Design to delay a site-plan application for the Longboat Key Center for the Arts. The issuance of a building permit will be extended to June 30, 2012.
• A site-plan amendment for The Longboat Key Club Moorings Marina, 2800 Harbourside Drive, to allow for the addition of 13 parking spaces.
Reviewed:
• Suggestions put together by town staff that depict different types of welcome signs that can be placed at the island’s north and south ends as part of a $500,000 grant awarded as a result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The planning board’s suggestions will be forwarded to the Town Commission for review at its Thursday, Sept. 24 regular workshop.

- It is hard for me to believe that Moore's request would be denied after an election demonstrated citizens of the island supported Moore's request. I guess the planning board is not interested in citizens' opinions about the key. Maybe we need to look at whose opinions should count.
