Sailors from across the United States and Canada will compete at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron 64th Annual Labor Day Regatta, which begins tomorrow and continues through Sunday, Sept. 5.
This year’s activities will include multiple separate race courses, live music, barbecue, refreshments and an award ceremony. The regatta is open to all WFPHRF boats, Multihulls and One Design Fleets. Between 250 and 300 competitors are expected to participate.
“In addition to the fleets that have historically participated, we anticipate a 50% increase in large vessels,” said Gregg Knighton, regatta chair, in a prepared statement. “Pre-event activities point toward a record turnout.
"Local and state and dignitaries have also been invited," he said. "Our hope is they will take us up on our offer to witness (firsthand) the vibrant, active sailing community that we have that provides a significant, positive influence on so many levels.”
