Longboat Key temperatures reach record highs

The weekend of Aug. 23 and Aug. 24 brought record high temperatures to Longboat Key.

On Saturday, temperatures reached 100 degrees; on Sunday, they fell slightly to 98 degrees.

The previous record for Aug. 23 occurred in 1981, when temperatures reached 96 degrees. For Aug. 24, the previous record was set in 1993, with 95-degree temperatures.

Forecasts for the coming week call for highs in the low 90s and lows in the upper 70s.
