Longboat Key Turtle Watch volunteers plan to excavate three nests that have hatched tonight.
The first excavation will take place at 7:30 p.m., Friday, at Covert II, 5231 Gulf of Mexico Drive. Parking is available in visitor spaces.
An 8 p.m. excavation will take place at 6417 Gulfside Drive. Parking is available at 6350 Gulf of Mexico Drive. Another excavation is scheduled at 8 p.m. at The Shore condominium, 5757 Gulf of Mexico Drive. Parking is permitted in any uncovered spaces.
Excavations will only be canceled in the event of lightning.

On his evening beach walk, Longboat Key resident Mike Haycock was in for a big surprise when he spotted a sea turtle coming out of the water Sunday.
