Some younger faces will be seen on Longboat Key for the next month.
At the Longboat Key Town Commission’s Tuesday, June 30 special meeting, Human Resources Manager Lisa Silvertooth announced that six interns will be working during the month of July at Town Hall.
The interns, ages 16 to 18, were sent to Town Hall as part of the Suncoast Workforce Board’s summer youth program, which gives young adults part-time work experience.
The Suncoast Workforce Board’s “Pledge an Opportunity” program provides valuable work-readiness skills training to youth participants.
Silvertooth said two interns will be working with the town’s finance department, one will be working with the town clerk’s office and the other three will be working in the Planning, Zoning and Building Department.

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
