Kors fashions his plans for two Gulf-front parcels

Designer Michael Kors has officially bagged space in the new Mall at University Town Center, and he could soon accessorize with a Gulf-front home on Longboat Key.

Paulinebea LLC filed plans earlier this month to build a 6,138-square-foot home designed by Bridgehampton, N.Y.-based Stelle Lomont Rouhani Architects on the vacant residential parcels at 6271 and 6281 Gulf of Mexico Drive.

The address for the Delaware-based Paulinebea LLC matches the address of Kors’ New York condominium.

A site plan filed with the Longboat Key Planning, Zoning and Building Department shows plans to build a two-level home with a garage, swimming pool, storage area, hot tub and yoga studio on the bottom story.

The top level will have a master suite, media room, office and guest suite that are separated by a veranda from three other guest suites, plus a staff area with two bedrooms. Between 80% and 85% of the walls on the west side of the home will be glass, and will overlook the Gulf of Mexico. The home will also include an elevator and outdoor staircase.

Paulinebea LLC has applied for a permit from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to build the home, which is required for Gulf-front construction. The home meets all town zoning requirements as designed.

Securing the FDEP permit could take between three to six months. After the state issues the permit, the applicant can apply for a building permit from the town, which will take 30 to 60 days to obtain.

Rumors began circulating late last year that the designer was shopping for real estate in the area. Kors was reportedly spotted at the Ringling Museum of Art’s “Icon of Style” opening in November and at Saks Fifth Avenue in Sarasota.

In April, he was identified as the buyer of the north-end property, after the address of his New York condominium on file with the Securities and Exchange Commissioned matched that of the buyer of the adjacent Gulf-front lots that sold in November for $6 million.

The transaction was the largest recorded sale in the region for a vacant Gulf-front parcel since 2004.
Last week, a Sarasota County building permit confirmed that Kors would add a location to the University Town Center mall when it opens in October.
