Repavement work began Monday on the 2.2-mile stretch of S.R. 789 from Bird Key Drive to Ken Thompson Parkway.
Construction work and lane closures will take place between 6:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. for most of the project, although work on St. Armands Circle will begin later, around 10 or 11 p.m., to avoid interfering with business hours.
Lane closures will be permitted 24 hours a day on the bridge to St. Armands located 200 feet north of Washington Drive in order to install new rails. As of Tuesday morning, the right-hand merge lane on the bridge was closed, but there were no traffic delays.
