The state’s Department of Community Affairs (DCA) has completed and accepted its review of the town’s Comprehensive Plan amendment, which paves the way for two charter amendments that allow grandfathered tourism and condominium units to redevelop to their current density and the creation of a tourism-unit pool of 250 units.

The state will officially approve the amendment at the end of the month, if no one challenges the plan amendment in the next 21 business days.

The state’s approval means the town can now officially approve the two charter amendments at the Monday, June 1 Town Commission regular meeting. Longboat voters approved the two amendments in March 2008.

Once approved next month, the town can begin accepting applications for some of the additional tourism units. But because of the application process guidelines, an applicant who receives units will not be able to start a project using those tourism units until July 2010.
