Laurence DeLynn, 85, of Longboat Key and Morgantown, W.Va., died May 9.
Born Aug. 27, 1924, he served for four years as a U.S. Army flight officer in Italy and married his wife, Jean, in 1956. DeLynn’s family owned the Fashionable Shoe Store, which he ran and quickly expanded when he bought a women’s store.
DeLynn was an avid supporter of charitable organizations including The Wellness Community of Southwest Florida.
DeLynn is survived by his wife, Jean. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to The Wellness Community, wellness-swfl.org, or TideWell Hospice & Palliative Care, tidewell.org.

A fitting tribute
A day after receiving an Ageless Creativity Award from the Ringling College/Longboat Key Center for the Arts in honor of their late father, Ed Brickman, daughter Carol Diamant and son Eli Brickman held a celebration of life service Saturday.
